About us

David Arthur Software is a small, independent software studio in North Yorkshire, England. We make simple, privacy-first apps for Windows and Android: software that does one job well, works without an account, and doesn't trade your personal information for the privilege.

We're small on purpose. The people who design and write our apps are the same people who answer your emails, so when you get in touch you reach someone who knows the code.

Why we built DuoVox

“I kept seeing the same problem: most translation apps make two people take turns, tap buttons and pass a phone back and forth. Real conversations don't work like that, and neither do the Teams and Zoom calls on our computers.”

So we built DuoVox, which puts both sides of a two-language conversation on one screen: what each person says and its translation, side by side, as they talk. We built it first of all for professional interpreters, as a live transcript beside them while they work, and it works just as well for anyone in a conversation across a language gap. DuoVox supports, and doesn't replace, a qualified interpreter.

How we work

  • Your data stays yours. We collect only what an app needs to work, and we never sell it. QuietTime and CCTV Converter keep everything on your device, and DuoVox's Free plan runs entirely on your PC.
  • No accounts, no adverts. Download an app and start using it. There's no sign-up, and no third-party advertising.
  • Works offline. The core features of every app work without an internet connection.
  • Honest about limits. We say plainly what our apps can and can't do. Automated translation can make mistakes, so we tell you where to check it.
