Privacy Policy for CCTV Converter
Last updated: 31 May 2026
David Arthur Software ("we", "us", "our") publishes the CCTV Converter app ("the App") as a free Windows utility. This page describes how the App handles your information.
1. The short version
CCTV Converter does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. It has no accounts, no cloud services, no analytics, no advertising, and no network code. Everything you do in the App stays on your computer.
2. What the App stores locally
The App writes a small configuration file at %LOCALAPPDATA%\CctvConverter\config.json on your machine. It records only:
- The last source folder you scanned and the last output folder you chose (so the paths appear next time you open the App)
- Up to five recent source folders and five recent output folders, for the ▼ quick-pick menus beside those fields
- Your "Delete source files after successful conversion" checkbox state
- Your "Add timestamp overlay to converted video" checkbox state
- Your chosen number of parallel conversions (1 to 8)
- Your chosen interface language (or the language auto-detected from your Windows settings on first launch)
- A count of how many files you have successfully converted, used only to know when to offer a one-time "rate the app on the Microsoft Store" prompt, and a flag recording your reply to that prompt
It also caches video thumbnails at %LOCALAPPDATA%\CctvConverter\thumbs\ to make repeat browsing faster.
None of this data is transmitted off your device. You can delete it any time by removing the %LOCALAPPDATA%\CctvConverter\ folder.
3. Your video files
Your CCTV footage is your data. The App reads the source files you point it at, writes converted MP4s to the output folder you choose, and never sends anything anywhere. Conversions happen entirely on your computer using a bundled copy of ffmpeg.
4. No cloud services
The App has no:
- User accounts or registration
- Cloud servers or databases
- Analytics or tracking services
- Advertising networks or ad SDKs
- Third-party data sharing
5. Permissions
The App runs as a standard Windows desktop application. It needs read access to the folders you point it at, write access to the output folder you choose, and the ability to launch the bundled ffmpeg.exe. It does not require administrator rights for normal use.
6. Links that open in your browser or the Microsoft Store
A small number of buttons in the App launch links in whatever app your system uses to open them — for example:
- The "☕ Buy me a coffee" button opens the Buy Me a Coffee page for the App in your default browser.
- The footer links to davidarthur.app and
info@davidarthur.appopen your default browser or email client. - If you click "Rate on Store" in the one-time rating prompt, the App opens the App's review page in the Microsoft Store.
These actions happen only when you click those specific buttons.
The App can also check whether a newer version is available when you choose "Check for updates": the Microsoft Store edition uses the Store's own built-in update system, and the direct-download edition checks a small version file hosted at davidarthur.app. A check sends only an ordinary web request (which, like any web request, includes your IP address) and transmits none of your settings, files, or footage. Nothing is downloaded or installed automatically, and you can ignore the result. Aside from the actions described above, the App makes no background network requests.
7. Data retention
All data the App writes is on your device for as long as you keep the App installed. Uninstalling or deleting %LOCALAPPDATA%\CctvConverter\ permanently removes everything.
8. Support emails and general correspondence
If you email us directly — for example, to ask for help with the App or to report a problem — we will receive your message, including your email address and anything you choose to tell us. We use that information only to respond to you and to keep a brief record of the conversation so we can help you again later.
- We do not add your email address to any marketing list.
- We do not share your email or its contents with any third party.
- We keep support emails for up to 2 years, then delete them.
- Email is handled by standard infrastructure with encrypted connections.
If you would like us to delete any correspondence with us, email info@davidarthur.app with "Delete my data" in the subject line and we will comply within 30 days.
9. Your rights
Because the App does not transmit or store any of your data outside your device, we (David Arthur Software) do not hold any personal data about you in respect of using the App, and there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on a server.
For data the App stores locally, you can:
- Access / view: open
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CctvConverter\config.jsonin a text editor. - Rectify: change source/output folders inside the App.
- Erase: delete the
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CctvConverter\folder, or uninstall the App.
If you believe we have handled your data incorrectly and are not happy with our response, you have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or by phone on 0303 123 1113.
10. Website cookies and local storage
The davidarthur.app website is a static site. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first, cookieless service that records anonymous, aggregated visit data without setting cookies or tracking individual users. It does not use advertising cookies or any other tracking. It also stores a small language-preference value in your browser's local storage so the site can remember the language you selected; this never leaves your device.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will note any change with a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
