Privacy Policy for QuietTime
Last updated: 24 March 2026
David Arthur Software ("we", "us", "our") built the QuietTime app ("the App") as a paid application. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of information when you use the App.
1. Information Collection and Use
QuietTime does NOT collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. All data is stored locally on your device only.
The App stores the following data locally on your device:
- A hashed PIN (your actual PIN is never stored)
- Schedule settings (block times, weekend days)
- App whitelist preferences
- Activity log entries (block/unlock events)
- User preferences (animation theme, wind-down settings)
This data never leaves your device.
2. No Cloud Services
QuietTime operates entirely offline. There are no:
- User accounts or registration
- Cloud servers or databases
- Analytics or tracking services
- Advertising networks or ad SDKs
- Third-party data sharing
3. Children's Privacy
QuietTime is designed to be configured by a parent or guardian and used on a child's device. The App does not collect any personal information from children. All settings are protected by a PIN set by the parent.
The App complies with:
- COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
- GDPR-K (General Data Protection Regulation provisions for children)
- UK Age Appropriate Design Code
4. Permissions
The Android version of QuietTime requests the following permissions:
- Display over other apps: To show the block screen during quiet hours
- Usage access: To detect which app is in the foreground
- Device administrator: To prevent unauthorised uninstallation
- Receive boot completed: To restart the service after device reboot
- Foreground service: To keep the schedule monitoring active
The Windows version runs as a standard desktop application and uses:
- Startup registration: To start with Windows (optional)
- Foreground window management: To display the block screen
5. Data Security
Your PIN is stored using salted cryptographic hashing and cannot be recovered or read. Schedule and preference data is stored in the app's private storage area, inaccessible to other apps.
6. Data Retention
All data is stored on your device for as long as the App is installed. Uninstalling the App permanently deletes all stored data.
